Cat Eyes Medication
Does your cat require eye medication? Here are a few some helpful tips on applying eye medication.
Fist off if there is any discharge around the eye, use a moistened cotton ball to clean.
Either hold your cat on your lap sideways or if you have someone to help you, you may want to use a table. Pay special attention if using a table, if your cat becomes nervous it may try to jump of the table and could injure itself.
Make sure to read dosage information, times daily, amount, etc.
With one hand hold the bottle between thumb and index finger. Use your other hand to support your cat’s head. Make sure the head is titled back and you can use free fingers to hold eyelids to prevent blinking.
Make sure not to touch eye surface with bottle or tube.
Squeeze drops inot eye and once you are finished release your cat’s head. Keep in mind your cat might be a little upset, so talking softly might go along way in calming him/her.
If you are applying ointment instead of drops, apply the ointment 1/4″ to the lower lid, when your cat blinks it will spread medication onto the eye’s surface.
