Canned Diets:
Here is a rough breakdown of canned cat food. They contain approximately 2% and 15% fat and between 8%-15% protein. It has the approximate moisture content of 75% (less than 78%). Per pound can food delivers between 375 to 950 metabolically kilocalories. Can foods offer the best taste to your cat however, they are not very convenient to store as once they are open it will need to be refrigerated.
Moist Diets:
This food contains approximately 5% to 10% percent fat, 16% to 25% protein, 30% (however this can go as high as 50%) of water, and 25% to 35% carbohydrate. This diet usually has 1200 to 1350 metabolically kilocalories per pound. These foods also offer a better taste to your cat than dry, and are easier to store then can, however they are usually much more expensive than dry food.
Dry Diets
Dry cat food contains approximately 28% or more of protien, less than 12% moisture, 8% to 24% fat, and between 1,400 and 2,000 metabolically kilocalories per pound. Dry food is the most cost affective and easiest to store cat food available.
